St. John’s Men’s Golf Closes Play at the Gary Freeman Spring Invitational

Austin Briggs finished inside the top-20 for the Red Storm
Led by a strong individual performance from Austin Briggs, the St. John's men's golf team finished seventh overall at the Gary Freeman Spring Invitational.
After turning in a first-round 70 on Thursday, the San Clemente, Calif., native closed out play recording a 78 and 80 over the final 36 holes to finish in a tie for 16th place.
Senior Ross Moore turned in a 75 and 77 over the final two rounds to finish inside the top-half of the standings.
Tyler Gerbavsits, Gerald Mackedon and Andrew Baek all registered a three-round total of 239 for the Red Storm. Gebavsits had a strong finish to the day, tallying five birdies over the final 18 holes to jump 17 spots on the leaderboard.
Jonathan Spicci saw his best performance come during the second round of play, as the Ridgefield, Conn., native tallied a trio of birdies on the front nine to turn in a 73. Spicci closed out play with a final-round 80 for a combined 241 after 54 holes.
Matthew Sweeney and Jack Simon rounded out scoring for the Johnnies, each shooting a three-round 243.
Augusta University claimed the team title, turning in a 14-over 878. The Jaguars' McCullough Pickens earned medalist honors, carding a three-round level par 216.
The Johnnies will have a month off before traveling to Malvern, Pa. for the Wildcat Spring Invitational on April 8.
