The Johnnies are riding high entering their Sunday contest with Drexel, coming off of a 1-0 shutout victory over former BIG EAST foe Syracuse. Redshirt senior Samantha Masur led the way for St. John's, recording the team's game-winning goal against the Orange, for the first of her career.
Redshirt freshman Naya Lipkens put forth a stellar effort for the Johnnies between the pipes. The Boomfield, Conn., native turned aside three shots on goal to lead the Red Storm to its first clean sheet of the campaign. Lipkens has recorded a combined 39 saves on the season to sit in a tie for first in the league.
Thursday's contest was a night of firsts for three Red Storm players, as sophomore midfielder Michelle Money assisted on Masur's tally for the first helper of her St. John's career.
Sunday's matchup marks the second all-time meeting between the Red Storm and Drexel. The Johnnies will look to capture their first win over the Dragons after falling to them last season despite a goal from Zsani Kajan on a penalty kick in the 88th minute.
The Dragons enter Sunday's contest with a 2-2-2 record, picking up wins over Marist and La Salle. In its last match, Drexel went the distance with Monmouth, playing the Eagles to a scoreless draw.
The visiting Dragons are in search of their first goal since Lauren Currey netted one in the 65th minute of their Sept. 6 contest with Loyola Marymount. Currey paces Drexel with eight points, registering a trio of goals and a pair of helpers on the season. As a team, the Dragons have scored five goals in six contests.
In the cage, Miyuki Schoyen and Libby Baeza have split time for Drexel, each earning three starts. Baeza has given up just one goal in five appearances this season, while Schoyen has allowed the remaining five.
