St. John’s Falls at No. 21 Columbia, 4-0

The Red Storm suffers its third loss to an Ivy League opponent this season
NEW YORK (Feb. 28, 2020) – The St. John's women's tennis team dropped its second-straight contest to an Ivy League opponent, falling to No. 21 Columbia on Friday, 4-0, at the Dick Savitt Tennis Center.
In doubles action, Columbia (10-2) gained the first point of the afternoon after securing the final two victories in the No. 1 and 2 matches. St. John's (6-5) earned its first victory of the morning on the No. 2 court as Milka Genkova and Kajsa Stegrell bounced Michelle Xu and Julia Haynes, 6-2. Columbia's Akanksha Bhan and Paulina Ferrari leveled the competition with a 6-3 win over Jessica Livianu and Gabriela Tenorio in the No. 1 tilt. In a tightly contested 7-6 (8-6) match, the Lions' No. 2 duo Jennifer Kerr and Shivani Amineni outdueled Najah Dawson and Oceane Garibal to take a 1-0 lead.
Columbia won singles matches at the No. 2, 5 and 6 positions to secure its 10th victory of the season.
Garibal, Camila Ordonez, and Willa Bay Breunich each fell in their singles bouts in straight sets to Jennifer Kerr, Michelle Xu, and Julia Haynes, respectively.
No. 51 Livianu led in her singles tilt over Columbia's No. 102 Akanksha Bhan on the No. 1 court, 6-4, 4-0.
The Johnnies will wrap up the weekend on Sunday, March 1, with their first of two contests in South Carolina when they face Coastal Carolina in Conway, S.C., at noon.
