St. John’s Competes at Brandeis Invitational

The Red Storm tallies wins over Yale, MIT, Brandeis, Cornell and Boston College
WALTHAM, Mass.- The St. John's fencing team made their debut as a squad on Sunday at the Brandeis Fencing Invitational. The Red Storm secured victories over four different teams, including Ivy League foes Yale and Cornell.
The men's fencing team finished the day with a strong record of 4-1. Behind Ahmed Ferjani and Jan Jurkiewicz, the men piled up 85 wins collectively. Ferjani looked impressive in his St. John's debut. The redshirt junior finished with a 9-3 record on the day and helped the men's saber team to 29 individual victories. Jurkiewicz led the way on the men's foil side. The sophomore out of Poland finished the competition on Sunday with 13 wins to give the foil team a perfect 5-0 record as a group.
On the women's side, foil specialist Arianna Pappone headlined the day with 10 wins. Pappone was one of only two foil specialists that competed on the women's side at the Brandeis Invitational. In women's epee, Kincso Kollar made her presence felt with 11 wins in a dominant performance to open her season. The women's team finished Sunday with a record 1-4.
The next team competition for the Red Storm will be on Saturday, January 22 when it hosts the St. John's Invitational at Taffner Field House.
