St. John’s Resumes Conference Play at No. 5 Georgetown

The Red Storm will face its first ranked opponent of the season
QUEENS, N.Y. (Feb. 26, 2021) – After dropping its home opener on Sunday against Providence, the St. John's lacrosse team travels to our nation's capital this Saturday to take on No. 5 Georgetown at 12 p.m.
The contest will be broadcast live on HoyaVision, with live stats available at statbroadcast.com.
Saturday will mark the 20th all-time meeting between the two programs, with the Hoyas leading the series, 15-4. The two programs last met on April 27, 2019, when the Red Storm fell to then-No. 19/17 Georgetown, 14-10.
St. John's (1-1, 0-1 BIG EAST) will look to jump back in the win column on Saturday after falling to Providence, 1-1, on Sunday. Despite the Red Storm's setback to the Friars, graduate students Mike Madsen and Ryan Schaeffer both tallied three goals apiece. Schaeffer has racked up three goals in each of St. John's two contests this season.
Joe Madsen extended his point scoring streak to 42 games against Providence, dishing out an assist to Dylan Willis in the second quarter of the game. The Johnnies' attackman is currently tied with Maryland's Logan Wisnuaskas for the fifth-longest streak in the country. Madsen has scored 96 goals and 25 assists during that period.
St. John's and Georgetown lead the conference in caused turnovers this spring with 11 per game. The Red Storm ranks second in the BIG EAST for goals (13.5) and points (19.0) per game after its two outings.
Junior netminder Brody Agres ranks first in the conference with 10.5 saves per game, while Schaeffer, Willis, and the Madsen brothers all sit inside the top-10 for goals per game.
Georgetown (1-0, 1-0 BIG EAST) will play its first home match of the season this Saturday after securing a 15-point win over Villanova on the road last week. The Hoyas' defense held the Wildcats scoreless for 51 minutes.
Graduate student Jake Carraway tallied eight goals and an assist in Georgetown's win, earning BIG EAST Attackman of the Week and National Player of the Week by US Lacrosse.
The 2019 BIG EAST Champions were picked to finish second in the league's preseason coaches' poll, one spot behind Denver. The Hoyas have captured the last two conference championships.
Georgetown posted an undefeated record in 2020 with six wins. The Hoyas return 35 letter winners, including three players who scored at least 10 goals last season.
