Men’s Golf Claims Team Title at LuLu Invitational

Alex Kyriacou earns co-medalist honors
The St. John's men's golf team claimed its first team title of the 2021 spring slate, while sophomore Alex Kyriacou earned co-medalist honors at the LuLu Invitational on Saturday.
As a team the Red Storm turned in a 279 (-5), to finish nine strokes ahead of second-place Villanova.
"The guys felt great coming into the event today and their performance really showed that," said Head Coach Mal Galletta. "I am very proud of them. They played with a lot of confidence and it was a great win for the team and for Alex."
Kyriacou turned in a career-best 67 (-4) on the day. The Suffern, N.Y., native drained four birdies on the front nine before wrapping up play with a pair of birdies on the par-3 15th and par-4 18th holes.
Junior Tyler Gerbavsits finished inside the top five for the Red Storm, carding a season best 69 (-2). The Huntington, N.Y., native's day was highlighted by an eagle on the par-5 10th hole.
Freshman Doug Beney saw his best performance of the spring season, carding an even par 71. The rookie drained a pair of birdies on the par-5 first and 10th holes.
Sophomore Gage Wolfle and junior Jack Simon turned in scores of 72 and 73, respectively. Wolfle drained five birdies over 18 holes, while Simon fired a birdie on the par-5 17th hole.
Sophomore Ryan Rittberger rounded out scoring for the Red Storm, finishing three-strokes back of Simon with a 76 on the day.
Junior Joseph Busiello, who was competing as an individual, turned in a 77 to finish in a tie for 15th place.
