St. John’s Returns Home to Face Villanova on Saturday

The Red Storm will face off against the Wildcats at 1 p.m.
QUEENS, N.Y. (April 16, 2021) – After dropping a heartbreaker to Marquette in overtime on Wednesday in Milwaukee, the St. John's lacrosse team will return home for the first time in two weeks on Saturday when it takes on No. 20/NR Villanova.
Opening faceoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. on ESPN3, available on ESPN.com and ESPN app. Pat O'Keefe will have the call from Queens.
St. John's (1-7, 0-7 BIG EAST) will look to rebound after falling to Marquette, 9-8, on Wednesday afternoon at Valley Fields. Jonathan Huber, Joe Madsen and Mike Madsen collected two goals apiece against the Golden Eagles. Joe Madsen and Huber are tied for the team lead with 13 goals while Mike Madsen enter double figures with his 10th and 11th markers of the year. Each member of that trio now has four multi-goal games this season.
Thomas Martello added a goal and an assist while Mackenzie Iacocca found the back of the net for the fourth time this season. Ryan Schaeffer logged a team-high two assists while Jack Lutfi, Connor Kalmus and Patrick Ednie registered single helpers.
Against Marquette, junior netminder Brody Agres tied his career high for most saves in a game with 19. In conference action, Agres leads league with 14.0 saves per contest. With Agres anchoring the defense, the Red Storm currently sits in first in the BIG EAST for save (16.2) and fourth in caused turnovers (6.4) per game.
Villanova (4-3, 4-3 BIG EAST) will wrap a two-game road trip after losing to No.5/5 Denver, 17-10, on Saturday. Junior Patrick Daly led the way for the Wildcats, posting four goals and one helper. Midfielder Matt Campbell scored twice while four other Wildcats added single goals.
The Villanova offense is led by senior attackman Keegan Khan, who has collected 17 goals in seven game this season. Earlier this month the Chatham, N.J., native was named BIG EAST Attackman of the Week after he tallied nine points against Providence. Khan's 2.4 goals per game currently ranks him fifth in the conference. Daly (2.33-7th) and Campbell (2.28-9th) also rank among the conference leaders in the category.
Villanova has been ranked as high as no. 16 in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Coaches Poll this season. The Wildcats are currently sit at no. 20 in the latest USILA Coaches Poll and place third in the conference standings. Since defeating St. John's on March 14, Villanova has dropped two of three, downing Providence and losing to No. 5/5 Denver and No. 10/11 Georgetown.
Saturday will mark the 28th all-time meeting between the two programs, with the Wildcats leading the series, 15-7.
