St. John’s Travels to Denver on Saturday Afternoon

The Red Storm and Pioneers will face off at 2 p.m. ET
QUEENS, N.Y. (April 23, 2021) – The St. John's lacrosse team will travel to The Mile High City this Saturday to take on No. 9/9 Denver at 2 p.m. ET.
The contest between the Red Storm (1-8, 0-8 BIG EAST) and the Pioneers (9-3, 7-1 BIG EAST) will be broadcast live on denverpioneers.com.
Saturday will mark the Red Storm's fifth game of the season against a ranked opponent and its fourth against a team ranked inside the top 10 of one of the two major polls.
St. John's will venture to Denver for its final road game of the season after falling to No. 20/NR Villanova, 23-8, last weekend at DaSilva Memorial Field. Attackman Jonathan Huber led the way for the Red Storm with four goals and one helper. Graduate student Mike Madsen found the back of the net twice and dished out an assist, while Jack Lutfi and Ryan Schaeffer each added single goals.
Huber's six tallies and one assist last week in the Johnnies' two games against Marquette and Villanova earned him a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll. The Great River, N.Y., native currently leads the team in goals (17) and points (22).
The Red Storm currently ranks first in the BIG EAST with 15.2 saves per game and third in the conference with 7.4 caused turnovers per contest.
Denver is coming off an 11-10 overtime loss to No.10/11 Georgetown on Saturday. The Pioneers' offense was led by attackman Ethan Walker with four points on three goals and an assist. The effort marked his sixth hat trick of the season. Jack Hannah and Lucas Cotler each finished with a pair of goals. Sophomore netminder Jack Thompson stopped a career-high 15 shots in the loss.
Walker and fellow attackman Jackson Morrill both rank in the top-10 in the NCAA among active players in career points and placed inside the top-15 in goals. The pair ranks inside the top-five for assists per game in the conference, accompanied by teammate Alex Simmons.
As a unit, Denver ranks atop of the conference in both goals (16.0) and assists (10.3) per game. Four Pioneers are in the top-10 for goals per game in the BIG EAST, Alex Simmons (2.7-4th), Jack Hannah (2.5-6th), with Morrill and Walker both tied for ninth.
Saturday will mark the eighth meeting all-time between the two programs. The Pioneers took the last meeting against the Johnnies, 20-6, at DaSilva Memorial Field, on Mar. 6, 2021.
