BOSTON- Sprinters from the St. John's track and field team dominated at the John Thomas Terrier Classic on Friday afternoon.
The Red Storm won every event they competed in, collecting victories in the 200-meter and 400-meter dashes as well as the 4x400-meter relay race.
Leah Anderson broke the St. John's indoor record for the 400-meter dash with a time of 53.11. The graduate student out of Mount Vernon, N.Y., broke her own record which had been previously set at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational on Feb. 14, 2020. Anderson also notched her second straight win in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.58, just .04 seconds off the school record.
Additionally, Avon Samuels and Skyy Diop posted strong results in the 400-meter dash, finishing in third and fourth place, respectively, with times of 55.74 and 55.76. The 4x400-meter relay team sealed the third win of the day for the Red Storm with a time of 3:42.70, nearly four seconds faster than the next closest team.
Anderson and the rest of the Johnnies will return to the track in split competition on Feb. 4 when they take part in the Dr. Sander Columbia Challenge and the Metropolitan Championships.
