St. John’s Takes Second at Metropolitan Championships

Meghan Ladd broke the school indoor record in the pole vault
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.- The St. John's track and field team took part in the Metropolitan Championships on Friday afternoon at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, N.Y. The Red Storm racked up 101 points to finish in second behind Fordham.
The day's events were headlined by pole vault specialist Meghan Ladd, who broke the St. John's record in the event by clearing a height of 3.35 meters. The Folsom, Calif., native surpassed previous record-holder Sophia Alter's height of 3.18 meters set in 2018. The sophomore finished in a tie for first with Fordham's Lilly Brown.
In the distance category, Claire Cushing impressed in her season debut in the mile run, snagging second place with a time of 5:15.66, less than four seconds behind winner Taylor Mascetta of Fordham. Mia Forster notched a third-place finish in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 18:19.52 while Hannah Huleatt grabbed third in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 11:03.18.
Elsewhere, junior Mandana Vouillemin made a strong debut in the 60-meter dash, finishing in third place with a time of 7.86. The junior also registered a season best time in the 200-meter dash, crossing the finish line with 26.09 seconds on the clock to finish seventh place. Antonia Frazier continued her solid indoor season, finishing third in the 60-meter hurdles with a season-best time of 9.00.
The Red Storm will return to action on Friday, Feb. 11 when it travels to the Armory to take part in the Rutgers Invitational.
