St. John’s Prepares for Friday Matchup with Stony Brook

Red Storm will compete in the Long Island Cup, hosted by Hofstra
QUEENS, N.Y.- The St. John's lacrosse team is set to compete in the Long Island Cup this weekend at James M. Shuart Stadium in Hempstead, N.Y. The Johnnies will face Stony Brook on Friday night at 6 p.m. before taking on either Hofstra or LIU on Sunday,
All four tournament games will be streamed on FloSports.
The Red Storm heads into the weekend with an 0-2 record after losses to nationally acclaimed opponents Rutgers and Bucknell. Freshman attackman Brian Kelly has quickly established himself as a staple of the Red Storm's offensive unit. the rookie leads the team in points with five (3 G,, 2 A). Patrick Ednie holds the team's top mark in goal-scoring with four, after the senior midfielder notched his first-career hat-trick at Bucknell. Senior captain Dylan Willis has dished out four helpers, including a game-high three in the opening loss to no. 9/9 Rutgers.
Defensively, Furman transfer Corey Hall has made an instant impact. The graduate student has fielded a team-high six groundballs and forced three turnovers. At Bucknell, the Easton, Md., native recorded a dazzling goal, launching a 60-yard heave into the back of the net from the St. John's defensive zone.
The goalkeeping duties have been shared between Kaden Quirk and Brody Agres through the first two matchups. Quirk, a freshman, has been given the nod to start on both occasions, tallying 23 total saves. The experienced Agres made his first appearance in 2022 during the second half against Bucknell. The senior netminder logged 28 saves in two games against Stony Brook in 2019 and 2020.
This weekend's contests will present as quick of a turnaround as St. John's has had in the regular season in 28 years, playing two games in less than a 48-hour time span. The last time the Red Storm played two regular season games in three days was in 1994, when it met Marist and Massachusetts from March 22-24.
The last two meetings between the Johnnies and the Seawolves have been decided by just a single goal. In 2020, Stony Brook's Caleb Pearson put one past Agres with seven seconds remaining in the overtime period to lift the Seawolves over the Red Storm, 13-12, at LaValle Stadium. The year prior, St. John's fell narrowly at the hands of their local foe, 12-11, in Queens. Matt Duncan added his first-career goal during that contest back on April 2, 2019.

In the opener, the Seawolves outlasted Fairfield, 13-12 and followed it up with an 18-14 decision over Robert Morris at LaValle Stadium. The 2021 America East Offensive Player and Rookie of the Year Dylan Pallonetti has picked up right here he left off for the Seawolves. has tallying 10 points on the young 2022 campaign.
