EUGENE, Ore.- The St. John's baseball team could not dig out of an early deficit, dropping the second game of the series to Oregon, 16-3, on Saturday at PK Park.
Luke Orbon and Jackson Tucker led the way for the Red Storm at the plate, as the freshmen tallied two hits apiece. Tucker added two RBIs and a walk to reach base in three of his five plate appearances.
David Glancy recorded an RBI for the second straight game along with a walk and a hit-by-pitch. The redshirt sophomore has reached base in four consecutive contests.
Jayson Kramer added a hit and scored a run while BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll selection Kevin Michaels scored a run and walked twice to extend his on-base streak to five games.
Ben Adams was tagged with the loss for St. John's (1-5).
The Ducks (3-3) opened the scoring early. After an RBI groundout, Brennan Milone hit his second home run of the series to double the Oregon lead, 2-0. Colby Shade homered to left centerfield to bring in three more runs and stake the Ducks to an early 5-0 advantage after the first inning.
Oregon tacked on six more runs in the home half of the second, as three RBI singles and an run-scoring groundout extended the lead to 11-0.
After a scoreless third inning, the Johnnies cracked the scoreboard in the top of the fourth courtesy of a Tucker walk with the bases loaded. The Ducks responded with another run of their own to restore their 11-run edge, 12-1, after four innings.
After Chuck Sanzio orchestrated a scoreless fifth, the Johnnies cut into the deficit with two runs. Back-to-back singles from Tucker and Glancy brought the Red Storm within nine runs, 12-3, after six innings.
That was as close as the Johnnies would get as Oregon added four more in the bottom of the eighth to pull away from St. John's.
The Red Storm and Ducks will face off once again tomorrow at 5 p.m. ET.
