St. John’s Competes at Larry Ellis Invitational

Red Storm tallies three wins over the weekend
PRINCETON, N.J.- The St. John's track and field team wrapped up competition at the Larry Ellis Invitational on the campus of Princeton University on Saturday. The Red Storm collected three wins and multiple top-five finishes during the two-day meet.
The 4x100 and 4x400-meter relay teams each notched a victory against some of the best athletes in the northeast. The 4x100 team of Skyy Diop, Tatyana McKenzie, Brooklyn Chestnut and Leah Anderson edged the Rutgers team by .01 seconds to take first while the 4x400 quartet of McKenzie, Anderson, Diop and Mandan Vouillemin easily beat second place Navy by more than seven seconds for the victory.
Claire Cushing also enjoyed a stellar day on the track, winning the 5,000-meter run and finishing fifth in the 1,500-meter run with times of 17:21.72 and 4:42.88, respectively. Her win the 5,000 meters also marked a personal best for the junior out of Ontario.
The Red Storm dominated the 100-meter dash, placing four runners in the top 10. Anderson led the way for the Johnnies, finishing third with a time of 11.66. McKenzie and Chestnut grabbed sixth and seventh with times of 11.95 and 11.98, respectively. Diop rounded out the top 10 with a time of 12.08. Chestnut also posted a fourth-place finish in the 200-meter dash, crossing the line with 24.87 seconds on the clock.
St. John's will return to the track next Saturday, April 23 when it travels to New Haven, Conn., to take part in the Mark Young Invitational.
