St. John’s Welcomes Providence for Regular-Season Finale

Red Storm will honor 11 seniors prior to the game on Saturday
QUEENS, N.Y. - The St. John's lacrosse team will host Providence in its regular-season finale on Saturday at 12:30 p.m.
Saturday's contest from DaSilva Memorial Field will be streamed on the BIG EAST Digital Network on FloSports. Drew Casey will have the call from Senior Day in Queens. Prior to the game 11 Red Storm seniors will be honored on the field for their contributions to the program.
The St. John's attack will continue to rely on its two-leading point-scorers Jonathan Huber and Brian Kelly, who have accounted for 84 points on the season.
Huber, the Redshirt senior has led the Johnnies offense in scoring for the second year in a row, firing in 37 goals so far this season. The former St. Anthony's High School product closes in on the single-season scoring record, as he sits three goals shy of tying the mark. Since the program's reinstatement in 2005, Stefan Diachenko (2015) and Kieran McArdle (2014) hold the all-time record, after scoring 40 goals during their senior seasons.
The rookie Kelly trails only Huber for the team lead in points (22 G, 19 A) on the season. In 13 games, the Red Hook, N.Y., native has already tied the all-time freshman record for points in a single season. Kelly needs one point to eclipse Kevin Cernuto, who registered 41 points as a rookie during the 2011 campaign.
On the defensive side, true freshman Kaden Quirk has been racking up saves Between the pipes,. The Nahant, Mass., has finished with a double-digit number of saves in 10 straight outings.
The rookie goaltender ranks second in the conference and tied for first among NCAA Division I Freshman with 161 stops. He sits six saves away from breaking the all-time St. John's freshman record for most saves in a season, set by teammate Brody Agres, who steered away 166 shots in 2019.
St. John's holds a 15-6 all-time series advantage over their conference foes. Last season during the abbreviate 2021 campaign, Providence took both meetings. The Friars and the Johnnies have played seven common opponents this throughout this season, as both met Siena, Hofstra and Fairfield during non-conference play.
The Friars are led by freshman Ryan Bell, who ranks tied for second in the BIG EAST with 28 assists in his rookie season. The top goal-scorer for Providence is senior Matt Grillo, who has found the back of the net 30 times this season.
