St. John’s Drops Contest at Temple, 4-2

Vila Antuna and Garcia pick up 12th doubles victory
PHILADELPHIA- The St. John's men's tennis team dropped its contest at Temple, 4-2, on Wednesday afternoon.
Four-time BIG EAST Doubles Team of the Week Axel Vila Antuna and Ignacio Garcia recorded their team-leading 12th victory at the TU Pavilion. The duo overpowered Temple's Leo Raquin and Henrique Petiz, 6-2, on the no. 1 court. The Owls took the remaining two partner matches to take a one-point advantage heading into singles play.
In singles competition, Temple (12-8) took three out of the five matches to remain unbeaten at home for the ninth consecutive season.
On the no. 3 court, Yaron Guberman outlasted Petiz, after falling behind in the first set. The freshman notched a 1-6, 6-2, 6-4 win.
Another stellar freshman, Vlad Vasilache tallied the other singles victory for the Johnnies. The Otopeni, Romania native won in a lengthy match over the Owls Hussein El Tawil, 3-6, 7-6 (7-1), 6-2.
Ryota Kaneda was leading his match against Gregorie Barety, 6-1, 4-1, before it was called unfinished.
The Red Storm (14-5) will venture to the nation's capital to face Georgetown for its regular-season finale at 1 p.m.
