St. John’s Gears Up for NCAA Northeast Regional

Red Storm will send 19 student-athletes to Boston
QUEENS, N.Y.- The St. John's fencing team will send 19 student-athletes to compete at the NCAA Northeast Regional on Sunday.
The qualifying meet will be held in Boston and hosted by Harvard University. The Red Storm will compete against 16 other schools, starting at 10 a.m. Live results can be found here.
Several Red Storm fencers will enter Sunday's meet as top-10 seeds in their respective weapon categories. Ahmed Ferjani and Fares Ferjani will enter as the No. 2 and 3 seeds, respectively, in men's saber. Julia Cieslar and Jan Jurkiewciz earned the No. 6 seed in women's saber and men's foil, respectively.
Last time out at the Temple Invitational, the men's team tallied two wins, led by both Ferjanis who combined for 24 individual victories. On the women's side, Cieslar and Nicole Gavrilko posted a team-best 11 wins each.
The Red Storm men have received national recognition from the US Fencing Coaches Poll, checking in at No. 8 in the rankings.
The Johnnies will look to bolster their resume in advance of the NCAA Championships, which will be held in Durham, N.C., on March 23-26. The NCAA Championship selections will be announced on March 14.
