St. John’s Travels to Stony Brook for Wednesday Matchup

Red Storm and Seawolves to meet for 15th time
QUEENS, N.Y.- The St. John's lacrosse team will hit the road for a trip to Stony Brook, N.Y., to take on the Stony Brook Seawolves on Wednesday afternoon. The midweek contest is slated for 4 p.m. from Kenneth P. Lavalle Stadium.
The matchup between the Red Storm and Seawolves will be live-streamed on FloSports, and live stats will be available on StonyBrookAthletics.com.
Brian Kelly scored twice on Saturday against Jacksonville to bring his season point total to a team-best 24. Kelly has logged two or more points in all six games this season, including a career-high eight points against Hofstra on Feb. 25. Kelly ranks 35th in the country and second in the BIG EAST with four points per game. Kelly is two goals short of 40 career goals and is on pace to join the illustrious 40 goal-40 assist club in just his second year with the program.
Connor Kalmus found the back of the net once against Jacksonville to tally his 13th goal of the season good for second on the team. Kalmus owns the best shot percentage on the team among players who have multiple attempts at .464. The Aquebogue, N.Y., native has scored in five out of six games this season and logged two or more scores in four appearances in 2023.
Sean Duffy tallied his second hat-trick of the season against Jacksonville and currently ranks third on the team in goals with nine. The Hampden-Sydney transfer has scored in five-straight games and has logged at least one point in 36 of his last 37 appearances dating back to his time with the Tigers.
Caleb Zuhoski registered a goal and an assist on Saturday to notch his second consecutive multi-point game. The junior attackman sits just behind Kelly with six assists and has logged at least one helper in four straight games.
Gavin Legg has made a big impression in his first year in Queens, sitting in a tie for first in caused turnovers with 11. The long-stick midfielder has also produced on the offensive end of the field, notching three points on two goals and one assist. Freshman goalkeeper Danny Seaman got his first career start between the pipes against Jacksonville and racked up 16 saves, the most by any Red Storm netminder this season.
Wednesday will mark the 15th overall meeting between St. John's and Stony Brook with the Seawolves leading the all-time series, 10-4. In 2022, the two New York schools met in Hempstead, N.Y., at the Long Island Cup, and the Seawolves defeated the Johnnies, 17-10.
Stony Brook enters the matchup with a record of 2-4, most recently falling to Providence in overtime, 10-9, on Saturday.
Senior attackman Dylan Palonnetti leads Stony Brook with 27 points on 19 goals and 8 assists. Blake Behlen and Noah Armitage are tied for second with 16 points. Former Johnnie Jonathan Huber has nine goals and two assists.
In net, Jamison MacLachlan has started all six games, logging 71 saves. MacLachlan leads the CAA with 11.83 saves per game.
