St. John’s Falls to Stony Brook

Caiden Vlasimsky tallied his first career hat-trick on Wednesday
STONY BROOK, N.Y.- The St. John's lacrosse team dropped its midweek contest to Stony Brook, 18-8, at Kenneth P. Lavalle Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
Caiden Vlasimsky tallied the first hat-trick of his career, scoring twice in the second quarter and once in the third to lead the Red Storm offensively. Brian Kelly added a goal and two assists in the midweek matchup to extend his multi-point streak to seven straight games. Luke Mangan found the back of the net twice, and Jack Lutfi and Bobby Seel each scored once on Wednesday. Caleb Zuhoski chipped in an assist, his seventh of the season.
Stony Brook (3-4) opened the game on a 4-0 run with Sean Carlo, Blake Behlen, Dylan Pallonetti and Jonathan Huber all finding the back of the net for the Seawolves in the opening quarter.
Lutfi stopped the run by picking up a loose ball on the doorstep and depositing the ball in the back of the net to make the score 4-1 in favor of Stony Brook after the initial 15 minutes of play.
St. John's (0-7) started the second quarter with a quick 2-0 scoring spurt of its own as Kelly and Vlasimsky each found paydirt for the first time in the ballgame to cut the deficit to one, 4-3, with 13:56 to go in the first half.
The Seawolves responded with authority, ripping off a 5-0 run to extend the hosts' lead to 9-3 before Vlasimsky closed the opening half with his second goal of the game to make the score 9-4 heading to the locker room.
Stony Brook took control in the second half, scoring four straight to start the third quarter courtesy of two goals from Matt Anderson and a tally each from Noah Armitage and Caleb Pearson, and the Seawolves extended the advantage to 13-4 with 10:51 to go in the third.
Mangan halted the run with his first score of the afternoon to inch the Johnnies closer, 13-5, at the 9:48 mark in the third quarter.
The two teams traded a goal over the final four minutes of the third, including Vlasimsky's third goal of the contest, to make the score 14-6 with 15 minutes to go.
The Seawolves outscored the Red Storm, 4-2, in the final period to secure their third victory of the season.
Next up, St. John's will return home to host RV/RV Saint Joseph's on Saturday afternoon. First face-off from DaSilva Memorial Field is set for 1 p.m.
