St. John’s Heads to Seton Hall for First BIG EAST Road Series

QUEENS, N.Y. (March 30, 2023) – The St. John's softball team will travel to West Orange, N.J. for its first BIG EAST road series of the season. The series opens on Friday at 2 p.m. at Mike Sheppard, Sr. Field.
The contest will be streamed on Flo Sports, with live stats provided by StatBroadcast. Links for both are on RedStormSports.com.
Anese Thompson was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll after her seven-for-nine performance on the week. In game two against DePaul on Friday, Thompson was 3-for-3 with three RBIs, the driving force in her selection.

The Red Storm belted a trifecta of homers against LIU in its Wednesday Midweek contest. Freshmen Sydney Totarsky and Sabrina Seaton each launched their first collegiate home runs. Hannah Mearns dazzled in four innings out of the bullpen to earn her fourth win of the season, in the Red Storm's 8-6 victory.
Over the weekend, St. John's won its second BIG EAST series of the season at the expense of the DePaul Blue Demons. For the second time in program history, the Red Storm won the series against DePaul taking both games of the doubleheader on Friday.
Sophomore London Jarrard is establishing herself as a top player not only in the BIG EAST but nationally, as well. Jarrard ranks in the top 50 of four categories nationally, and in the top 3 of the conference in seven statistical categories. Her .552 OBP tops the league and is 16th in the country.
Bob Guerriero is in his fifth year as head coach of the St. John's Softball team and is assisted by Grace Kramer and Marissa Rizzi. Kramer, a 2017 St. John's graduate, is in her fourth season as an assistant coach while Rizzi, a 2020 graduate, is in her second season as a coach as a part of the Red Storm program.
Seton Hall enters the weekend winning five of its last six games all of which have been on the road. Last weekend the Pirates swept the Bluejays in Omaha and won a doubleheader against Monmouth on Tuesday. On Wednesday Seton Hall dropped 4-1 to Stony Brook.
Olivia Gilbert has supplied the Pirates power as she ranks third in the conference with 24 RBIs, and fifth with six home runs. In the circle, the Pirates lead the BIG EAST with a 2.68 ERA. Hurlers Kelsey Carr leads the staff boasting a 1.72 ERA and has held opponents to just a .207 average. Shelby Smith leads the Pirates with 68 strikeouts.
Head Coach Angela Churchill is in her second season with the Pirates.
In the all-time series against the Pirates, the Red Storm are 62-29. In West Orange, St. John's is 33-9. Last spring, the Pirates swept the Johnnies in a doubleheader.
The Red Storm will host Iona next week before an Easter Weekend series at UConn.
