Red Storm first baseman went 1-for-1 with a home run and two walks
The Johnnies' first baseman registered just one official at-bat on the afternoon, launching his fourth home run of the season while logging two walks and two sacrifice flies.
Outfielder David Glancy provided his sixth homer of the year against the visiting Pirates, going 2-for-4 at the dish with three runs scored. Tate Ballestero also produced a multi-hit day at the plate, posting two hits, a run scored and one RBI.
Seton Hall (16-16, 2-2 BIG EAST) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the opening frame behind a pair of run-producing singles.
St. John's (18-13, 2-2 BIG EAST) retaliated with three of their own in the home half of the first. After consecutive walks to Glancy and Ballaestero, Mann blasted a towering 411-foot missile over the left-center wall, knotting the game at three.
The Pirates responded with a one-spot in the top of the second as Max Viera hit an RBI single up the middle for a 4-3 lead.
Once again, the Red Storm battled back quickly with a four-run frame in the bottom portion of the second. Following a leadoff double from Kevin Michaels and Jace Jeremiah reaching on a SHU miscue, Luke Orbon sent the first pitch he saw up the middle, plating both runners for a 5-4 lead. After a Glancy base knock to put runners on the corners, Ballestero ripped a single to right for a 6-4 advantage. The Johnnies added one more on a Mann sacrifice fly to go up by three, 7-4.
Starter Sonny Fauci settled in and worked three-straight scoreless frames, picking up his second win of 2023. Reliever Ben Adams tossed a perfect top of the sixth before Glancy shelled a 398-foot solo homer to left in the home half for an 8-4 edge.
Seton Hall scored one run in the seventh and one more in the ninth before Nick Cirelli closed the door for his fifth save of the year.
Saturday's contest, which was originally slated for 2 p.m., has been changed to 11:30 a.m. at Jack Kaiser Stadium to account for inclement weather coming through the area later in the day.
