St. John’s Enjoys Successful Weekend of Split-Team Action

The Red Storm captured the top spot at the Mark Young Invitational
The St. John's track and field team competed in two meets over the weekend, battling at the Mark Young Invitational in New Haven, Conn., and at the Virginia Challenge in Charlottesville, Va.
The Red Storm put together a dominant performance at the Mark Young Invitational, totaling 128 points to finish first among six teams. The Johnnies collected three wins and 15 top-three finishes across 16 events.
Samantha Morillo-Martinez showed out against some of the best student-athletes in the Northeast, winning the shot put and discus throws with tosses of 13.21 and 43.62 meters, respectively. Morillo-Martinez has posted top-three results in each of her last four outdoor meets.
Brooklyn Chestnut was solid on Saturday, securing second-place results in the 100 and 200-meter dashes with times of 11.99 and 25.12, respectively. Nora Haugen captured a win in the 400-meter race with a strong mark of 56.05 and finished third in the 200 meters with a time of 25.17. Jalen Jackson had a strong outing, logging personal-best times in the 200 and 400-meter dashes with times of 26.13 and 1:01.77, respectively.
Blessing Assoumany and Tiffany-Ann Matturro both notched personal bests in the 800 meters, crossing the line at 2:23.99 and 2:25.34, respectively. Gabriella Caronia posted a personal best in the 1500-meter run with a time of 5:17.14. Hannah Huleatt secured a second-place finish in the 5,000 meters with a time of 19:15.98. Zamira Ysaac grabbed second place in the 400-meter hurdles with a strong time of 1:04.81.
In the field, Mandana Vouillemin cleared the 1.45-meter bar to third in the high jump while Meghan Ladd and Berit Friedenbach both surmounted the 1.35-meter bar to secure second and third in the pole vault, respectively. Ioanna Kyprianou leaped a personal-best 11.15 meters to grab third in the triple jump.
Emma Woodcock heaved the shot put 11.42 meters to register a new personal best. Desiree Pagan logged two personal bests in the discus and hammer throws with tosses of 41.78 and 45.75 meters to capture second and fifth place, respectively. Ismini Andreou finished second in the hammer throw with a personal-best heave of 51.47 meters.
In Charlottesville, Va., Chinenye Onuorah logged times of 25.29 and 55.32 in the 200 and 400-meter dashes, respectively. Tatyana McKenzie posted a mark of 55.70 in the 400-meter race, and Nia Holden finished the 800-meter run with 2:11.62 on the clock. Jamora Alves competed in the shot put and discus throws, logging tosses of 13.90 and 46.56 meters, respectively.
The Red Storm will return to action on Thursday when it travels to Philadelphia to compete in the prestigious Penn Relays.
