St. John’s to Compete at the Villanova Invitational

The Red Storm returns to action at Ocean Breeze after a seven-week break
QUEENS, N.Y. – After a seven-week break, the St. John's track and field team will return to the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, N.Y., for the Villanova Invitational. The squad's first meet of 2024 is scheduled to start on Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m.
The Red Storm will compete in its second straight meet at Ocean Breeze after battling at the Youree Spence-Garcia Invitational on Dec. 2. The Johnnies took home three individual wins and a slew of top-three finishes across 10 events at the season-opening contest.
Saturday will mark the fourth straight indoor season that the Johnnies have participated in the Villanova Invitational at Ocean Breeze.
St. John's claimed three silver medals in the sprint races at the season-opening meet. Brooklyn Chestnut, Delicia Bent and Dolce McPherson all grabbed second in the 60, 200 and 400-meter dash, respectively.
The Red Storm earned its first victory of the season in the 4x400-meter relay. Blessing Assoumany, Leilani Robinson, Bent and Chestnut posted a finishing time of 3:59.47 in their first relay of the year.
Ana Dobsa raced her way to a second-place effort in the 100-meter race in the first meet of her collegiate career. The freshman notched a time 3:02.49 in the event. Ruth Smith also impressed in her collegiate debut, registering a jump of 1.60 meters in the high jump event.
In the throw events, Jamora Alves and Ismini Andreou both claimed victories in the shot put and weight throw. Alves won the shot put with a heave of 14.03 meters while Andreou won the weight throw with a 16.56-meter launch.
