The Johnnies earned a win in the 4x400-meter relay
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – After a seven-week hiatus, the St. John's track and field team returned for the Villanova Invitational on Saturday at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, N.Y.
The Red Storm earned a win in the 4x400 meter relay in Villanova's home meet while picking up top-3 finishes in three other events.
The Johnnies' sole win of the day, Brooklyn Chestnut, Kara Sampath, Zamira Ysaac and Sophia Leslie finished the 4x400-meter relay in 3:31.41. Dolce McPherson, Nia Holden, Chinenye Onourah and Nora Haugen raced their way to a 3:47.32 finish, good for third place in the relay.
In the sprints, Chestnut ran her way to a third-place finish in the 60-meter dash. The senior paced the race in 7.61 seconds. Tea Siehou came in fourth place in the event with a finishing time of 7.69 seconds.
Haugen sprinted her way to a second-place effort in the 500-meter dash, which was good for a personal best time of 1:13.72. Haugen's time breaks her previous record of 1:13.89 from the Youree Spence-Garcia Invitational on Dec. 2, 2023.
In the distance events, Claire Cushing notched a finishing time of 4:59.16 in the 1-mile run, which was good enough for a fourth-place effort. Holden took fifth place in the 1000-meter run after pacing the track in 2:54.79.
Cassie Lemus-Sodji provided the Red Storm with an excellent showing in the long jump with a leap of 5.57 meters, placing fourth in the field event.
Ismini Andreou earned a personal record 17.04-meter heave in the weight throw. The senior's personal best throw registered third place overall.
