The two-day meet will be the Red Storm’s first away from Ocean Breeze this season
QUEENS, N.Y. –The St. John's track and field team will venture to the Armory in Manhattan to battle against some of the nation's top track and field programs at the Dr. Sander Invitational. The two-day meet will kick off on Friday morning and conclude on Saturday evening.
Columbia's annual home meet is a staple in the Johnnies' indoor schedule, as the squad has competed in the competition in five out of the last six seasons.
The program will also compete outside of the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, N.Y. for the first time this season. The Red Storm opened its indoor slate with two consecutive meets inside the facility.
Last weekend, the Johnnies put up a strong effort at the Villanova Invitational, earning a win in the 4x400-meter relay. The squad also posted three top-3 finishes in other events.
The Red Storm relay squad of Brooklyn Chestnut, Kara Sampath, Zamira Ysaac and Sophia Leslie paced the 4x400-meter relay in 3:31.41, which was good for the program's second win in the event this indoor season.
Chestnut continued to lead the way for the sprinters, earning her second top-three result in the 60-meter dash last Saturday. The senior paced the event in 7.61 seconds for a third-place finish. Nora Haugen posted a personal-best finishing time of 1:13.72 for a second-place effort in the 500-meter dash.
Ismini Andreou is off to an impressive start in her senior season, recording a personal best heave of 17.04 meters to finish third in the weight throw event. Andreou has now claimed a top-three finish, including a win in the weight throw through the indoor season's first two competitions.
