St. John’s Prepares to Face No. 16/16 Richmond

The Red Storm will play next three games on the road, starting with the Spiders
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's lacrosse team will play its first of three straight games away from Queens on Saturday against Richmond. Faceoff from E. Claiborne Robins Stadium in Richmond, Va., is set for noon.

Saturday will mark the first of three straight road games for St. John's. After taking on Richmond, the Johnnies will head down to Charlotte, N.C., for a matchup with Queens (N.C.) before taking on Jacksonville next Saturday in Florida.
The Red Storm (0-4) is coming off a 17-6 loss to No. 16/15 Delaware last Saturday at DaSilva Memorial Field. Brian Kelly tallied his third straight hat trick for St. John's and added an assist in the setback. The junior's four points against the Blue Hens put him at 106 for his career, moving him into sole possession of 13th place on the program's all-time points list. Through four games, Kelly leads the Red Storm in goals (11) and points (14). Kelly was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll after scoring eight goals in two games last week.
Junior midfielder Bobby Seel scored a goal against Delaware to extend his team-best points and goals streak to five games. Prior to last Saturday's game, Seel had recorded two straight four-point outings against Hofstra and Quinnipiac. Through four games, the Garden City, N.Y., native is second on the team in goals (6), assists (4) and points (10).
In his first game action since the season opener against NJIT on Feb. 3, Adrian Nowak scored his fourth goal of the season while Pat Reilly scored his second man-up goal in as many games.
Caiden Vlasimsky continued his hot start to the season against the Blue Hens, recording a pair of assists. Vlasimsky has tallied two points in each of the last three games and is up to nine points on the season. The Dallas, Texas native leads the team in assists with five and ranks third in both goals (4) and points (9). Vlasimsky and Seel are the only two players on the Red Storm to record at least one point in all four games this season.
Adam Dembicki continued his strong start to his freshman campaign, winning 12-of-23 faceoffs and scooping a season-best eight groundballs against Delaware. In the three games this season Dembicki has taken the majority of the draws, he has won at least 12 faceoffs in two of them.
Richmond (1-2) is coming off a 14-10 loss last Saturday to No. 3 Virginia at home. Against the Cavaliers, Dalton Young recorded a hat trick and added a pair of helpers while Lance Madonna, Aidan O'Neil and Luke Grayum each had two-point performances. Zach Vigue got the start between the pipes and made 17 saves on 31 shots he faced with scooped five groundballs. At the faceoff 'X', Jared Chenoy won 11-of-26 draws. Defensively, Jake Kapp caused a game-high three turnovers and grabbed three groundballs. Joe Gooley scooped four loose balls for the Spiders.
On the season, Young leads the team in goals (10) and points (17) and is tied with O'Neil for the most assists (7). O'Neill is right behind Young with nine goals and 16 points. Fifteen players have scored at least one goal for Richmond this season and 17 players have at least one point.
The Spiders lead the Atlantic-10 with a +3.67-scoring margin this season and are second in the conference in clearing percentage (89%) and man-up offense (43%).
The Spiders went 11-5 a season ago and won the A-10 Championship. Richmond was a perfect 9-0 at home in 2023 under Head Coach Dan Chemotti.
St. John's and Richmond faced off for the first time last season and the Spiders walked away with an 11-8 victory in Queens. The Red Storm's Kelly and Seel both tallied hat tricks for the Red Storm and Kyle Munson made 13 saves on 24 shots between the pipes. Madonna netted three goals while O'Neill and Young each had two scores for Richmond.
