St. John’s Earns Strong Victory Over Dartmouth, 4-3

Red Storm wins its first road match of 2024
The St. John's men's tennis team won its first match on the road this season against Dartmouth, 4-3, on Saturday at the Boss Tennis Center in Hannover, N.H.
The Red Storm (5-1) won two of the three doubles matchups to claim the team point and took three singles contests to earn the victory in the Granite State.
On the No. 2 doubles court, Ignacio Vinas and Leon Petko defeated Carlos Guerrero Alvarez and Hikaru Takeda, 6-4. Francisco Bascón and Leonardo Mileikowsky earned a 6-4 win over Henry Ren and Alex Knox-James on the No. 1 court to give the Red Storm a 1-0 lead.
After Dartmouth tied the score at 1 reigning BIG EAST Singles Player of the Week Carl Gustavsson regained the lead for the visitors, defeating Takeda in straight sets, 7-5, 6-0.
Dartmouth took victories on the No. 2 and No. 5 courts to take a 3-2 lead in the match.
With the Red Storm's backs against the wall, Ryota Kaneda gave the Johnnies their third point of the match, getting the better of Chang on the No. 6 court, 7-5.
With the score tied at three, Bascon and Guerrero Alvarez were in the midst of a three-set battle on the No. 1 court that would ultimately decide the match. Guerrero Alvarez took the first set, 6-4 before Bascón came on top in the second, 7-5, setting up a winner-take-all set three. Down to the wire, the Cordoba, Spain native earned the 7-6 advantage in the set, winning the point and the match for St. John's.
Dartmouth falls to 5-1 with the loss.
St. John's will return to the court on Thursday, Feb. 8 to take on Hofstra. First serve from the USTA National Tennis Center is scheduled for 10 a.m.
