St. John’s Sweeps Doubleheader over Hofstra, 4-0 and Adelphi, 5-1

Red Storm have won four straight matches
The St. John's men's tennis team swept a doubleheader on Thursday, blanking Hofstra, 4-0, before defeating Adelphi, 5-1.
The Red Storm (7-1) have won four straight matches and have come out victorious in at least seven of its first eight matches for the fifth straight season.
In game one against Hofstra, the Johnnies improved to 5-0 all time vs the Pride, taking down their local rivals from Nassau County. The Johnnies won the team doubles point and took the first three singles contests to claim the four points needed for victory.
Martin Bugaj and Carl Gustavsson got things going for the Red Storm on the No. 3 doubles court, taking down Josh Reynolds and Kaita Odani, 6-3. Reigning BIG EAST Doubles Team of the Week Leon Petko and Ignacio Vinas clinched the doubles point on the No. 2 court, narrowly defeating Maxim Michaels and Vincent Turina, 7-5.
Gustavsson gave St. John's its second point of the day, earning a straight-set decision over Maxim Michaels, 6-4, 6-2. The junior from Sweden improved to 6-0 in singles play in 2024.
Bugaj gave the Red Storm a 3-0 advantage when he got the best of Josh Reynolds on the No. 2 court, 6-4, 6-2. Ryota Kaneda won his third singles match in a row, defeating Kaita Odani in convincing fashion, 6-2, 6-1, earning the fourth point of the match for the home squad.
Hofstra falls to 1-3 on the season with the loss.
In the backend of the doubleheader, the Red Storm won five of six singles matches to take down the Panthers, 5-1. No doubles matches were played in the contest.
Armando Sotelo made his dual-match debut for St. John's against the Panthers and gave the Red Storm a 1-0 lead in the contest, taking down Reece Farrow in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1.
Leonardo Mileikowsky defeated Casey Recci, 6-1, 6-2, to give the Johnnies a 2-0 advantage. Mileikowsky improved to 3-0 on the No. 3 singles court this season.
Danilo Raicevic improved his singles record to a perfect 5-0, earning the Red Storm its third point with a two-set victory against Thomas Horsley, 6-2, 6-2.
Kaneda made the score 4-0 with his third-straight singles win, getting the better of Hugo Munoz Reinoso, 6-4, 6-2.
After Adelphi earned its lone point of the match, freshman Marco Cinotti picked up the second win of his career against Viktor Hockl in a three-set battle, 3-6, 6-3, 7-5.
Adelphi moves to 4-1 on the year with the loss.
The Red Storm will go for its fifth straight win on Saturday against Penn State. First serve from the Milstein Family Tennis Center in Manhattan is scheduled for 1 p.m.
