St. John’s Competes at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational

The Johnnies registered 11 season-best times at the meet
BOSTON – After earning several personal-best performances, the St. John's track & field team wrapped up competition at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational at the Boston University Track and Tennis Center on Friday.
As a team, the Red Storm racked up 11 season-best times across the meet, including four career-best marks. The Johnnies also claimed top-five results in the 200-meter dash and the shot put at the meet.
"Another weekend with positive outcomes. We have personal-records and season-bests throughout the competition today. I love our consistency and resilience," said Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Aliann Pompey. "Next up, we'll run a 4x400-meter relay at the Millrose Games to gear up for the Big East Championships. A mostly field event contingency will compete at Manhattan next Friday and then it's the competition they've all been preparing for."
In the 60-meter dash, Delicia Bent nabbed a seventh-place finish in the preliminary round with a time of 7.56 seconds. Ava Mabry-Spencer paced the open 60-meter dash event in 7.83 seconds for a fourth-place effort.
St. John's shined in the 200-meter dash as Amarachukwu Obi put up a BIG EAST-leading time of 24.23 seconds for a fourth place result out of 224 competitors. Brooklyn Chestnut and Chinenye Onuorah each tallied season-best times in the event, pacing the race in 25.08 and 26.36 seconds, respectively.
Tea Siehou and Spencer rounded out the 200-meter group, notching personal-best performances. Siehou rang up a time of 25.59 seconds while Spencer notched a 26.22-second mark.
Onourah put up another season-best effort of 55.27 seconds in the 400-meter dash, earning 14th place overall in the event. In her 400-meter season debut, Obi registered a career-best mark of 55.68 seconds to place 18th. Dolce McPherson and Maddie Kelso-Heap each grabbed personal-best times in the competition with sprints of 57.87 and 58.71 seconds apiece.
In the distance events, Nia Holden provided a season-best finishing time of 2:13.31 in the 800-meter run. Leilani Robinson finished out the race with a 2:17.39 mark.
Claire Cushing continued her excellent season on the track by clinching a season-best result of 9:56.43 in the 3000-meters. The Ontario, Canada product recorded a 22nd-place finish in the race.
In the shot put, Jamora Alves produced a launch of 13.59 meters for a second-place effort. Juliet Smith added another impressive performance to her freshman campaign, tallying a heave of 12.31 meters for seventh place in the event.
St. John's will return to the track on Sunday for the historic 116th Millrose Games at The Armory. The meet will kick off at 8:30 a.m. in Manhattan, New York.
