St. John’s Fencing Heads to the 2024 NCAA Championships

Nine Red Storm fencers are set to compete for a national championship
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's fencing team is heading to Columbus, Ohio, in search of its second national championship at the 2024 NCAA Championships. The competition will last four days, spanning from Thursday to Sunday.

Nine student-athletes, four men and five women, will head to Columbus on behalf of St. John's. The Red Storm sends two more fencers than last year's total of seven following an impressive day at the NCAA Northeast Regionals.
The men are set to compete on Saturday and Sunday at the event. Ahmed Ferjani, Jan Jurkiewicz and Paul Fortin will lead the way after sweeping first-place finishes at regionals in the saber, foil and epee, respectively.
Ferjani will make his third appearance in as many seasons at the championships in the men's saber after finishing 11th and earning All-American honors last year. Jurkiewicz will defend his 2023 individual foil crown at the event after capturing St. John's first individual national championship since 2019. In the men's epee, Fortin will compete in his second championship following an impressive debut in 2023 by finishing fifth. Alongside Fortin, freshman Daniil Mazur is set to make his first appearance, competing in the men's epee.
The women will open the event by competing on Thursday and Friday. Julia Cieslar captured first in the women's saber at the NCAA Northeast Regional to earn her third consecutive bid to the NCAA Championships. After finishing third in the women's foil at regionals, Malwina Kolodziejczyk enters her second straight NCAA Championship in the women's foil. Freshmen Catinca Dumitru, Elisa Treglia and Nicole Feygin are all set to make their debuts on the women's side. Dumitru will compete in the women's saber while Treglia and Feygin will represent the Red Storm in the women's epee.
