St. John’s to Take on Fordham in Home-and-Home Series

Red Storm rides a 12-game winning streak into Friday’s contest with Rams
QUEENS, N.Y. (March 21, 2024) – Looking to continue its hottest start since 2017, the St. John's baseball team will square off with Fordham in a home-and-home series beginning on Friday at Jack Kaiser Stadium. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m.
The first 100 fans in attendance of Friday's contest will receive a free St. John's hat, courtesy of Red Storm Athletics.
Due to rain expected on Saturday, the Johnnies will head to the Bronx on Sunday for a 1 p.m. contest before returning to Queens on Monday for a 3 p.m. showdown. Live stats will be available for all contests on RedStormSports.com. ESPN+ will also pick up the broadcast for all three games.
The Johnnies are off to their best start since going 17-2 to open the 2017 slate after taking down Manhattan, 10-5, and Wagner, 8-2, during the week. With a win on Friday, the Red Storm will secure its longest winning streak since rattling off 15 straight victories en route to a BIG EAST Championship in 2015. With an 11-0 mark at home, St. John's will look to match its best start at The Jack since the squad won 12 straight games to open the 2011 campaign.
The Red Storm is among the nation's top teams with a .320 batting average (24th), 2.7 doubles per contest (9th) and 18 turned double plays (30th). Catcher Jimmy Keenan has been on a recent tear, finding himself at the second in the BIG EAST with a .429 batting average (2nd) and 27 RBIs (2nd). Ben Beauchamp (.385, 5th), Luke Orbon (.379, 6th) and Blake Mayberry (.375, 7th) joined Keenan in the conference's top 10 in batting average. The team also boasts the third-lowest earned run average in the conference with a 4.98 ERA.
The Johnnies slashed .349/.458/.538 and averaged 10.3 runs per game over the last 12 games. Keenan, the reigning BIG EAST Player of the Week is, slashing .447/.518/.809 to go with 22 RBIs and 14 runs scored since the Red Storm started its recent winning streak.
Fordham enters the weekend having won five of its last seven games, including a 10-8 victory over Hofstra on Wednesday. Chris Genaro logged a 3-for-4 day at the dish with three RBIs. Ryan Thiesse and Nico Boza chipped in multi-hit performances while Boza tallied two runs and drove in two more.
Thiesse paces the team with a .360 batting average, 27 hits and 16 runs scored. Four players have logged double-digit RBIs this season, seeing Andrew Kanellis lead the way with 13. The Rams are hitting .242 through 20 games and averaging 5.5 runs per contest.
