St. John’s Readies to Face No. 75 Monmouth

The Red Storm will take on the Hawks for the fifth time in program history
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's men's tennis team will play its first home match since March 6 when it takes on No. 75 Monmouth on Wednesday. First serve from the USTA National Tennis Center is set for 1 p.m.
The Red Storm (12-4, 1-0 BIG EAST) is coming off a 4-1 setback last Wednesday against Yale in West Haven, Conn. Armando Sotelo and Martin Bugaj earned a 6-4 victory on the No. 2 doubles court. Adam Groves paired up with Ryota Kaneda for a 6-4 win on the No. 3 court, clinching the team doubles point for the Johnnies.
Kaneda leads St. John's with 12 singles triumphs this season while former BIG EAST Singles Player of the Week Carl Gustavsson has emerged victorious in 10 matches. The junior from Stockholm, Sweden is also 3-1 when competing on the No. 1 singles court. Danilo Raicevic improved to 8-1 on the season with his win against Creighton on March 6.
In doubles action, Ignacio Vinas and Leon Petko lead the Johnnies with an 8-3 record as a pair. Leonardo Mileikowsky and Francisco Bascón have four victories together this season.
The Red Storm and the Hawks will square off for the fifth time on Wednesday, with the overall series record tied at two wins a piece. When the two programs met last year in West Long Branch, N.J., the Red Storm picked up a 4-2 win on April 12, 2023.
Monmouth comes to Queens with an 11-2 overall record and winners of four straight matches. The Hawks are coming off a dominant 6-1 victory over Queens College on March 22.
Following Wednesday's tilt against Monmouth, the Red Storm will resume BIG EAST Play when it visits Villanova on March 30 at the Villanova Tennis Complex.
