Fencing Gears Up for NCAA Northeast Regional

St. John’s sends 21 student-athletes to Brooklyn for regional
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's men's and women's fencing teams will compete at the NCAA Northeast Regional hosted By Long Island University in Brooklyn, N.Y. on Sunday.
The Red Storm will send 21 student-athletes to compete against 17 other schools for spots in the NCAA Championships.
St. John's will enter Sunday with at least one fencer as a top-10 seed in each category. Defending NCAA Individual Champion Jan Jurkiewicz will enter as the No. 5 seed in the men's foil while Ahmed Ferjani earned the No. 5 seed in the men's saber. Daniil Mazur and Paul Fortin enter the men's epee competition as the No. 2 and No. 4 seed, respectively.
On the women's side, Elisa Treglia enters as the sole No. 1 seed for the Johnnies in the women's epee. Nicole Feygin and Eva Galper round out the category as the No. 4 and No. 9 seeds. In the women's foil, Malwina Kolodziejczyk and Antonina Lachman garnered the No. 6 and No. 10 Seed to start Sunday. Julia Cieslar rounds out the Red Storm's top-10 seeds as the No. 9 seed in the women's saber.
At last weekend's Temple Invitational, Ferjani, Fortin and Cieslar each tallied nine individual wins to pace the Red Storm. The men's and women's epee each recorded 19 wins to mark the best category for St. John's.
