QUEENS, N.Y. – Following an impressive showing last weekend at the UConn Northeast Challenge, the St. John's track & field team will split up for the final time this weekend between the Mark Young Invitational and the Virginia Challenge on Friday and Saturday.
Virginia's home meet will kick off with the women's discus on Friday at 1:45 p.m. while Yale's home contest is slated to start at 11 a.m. on Saturday with the women's shot put and men's long jump.
The Red Storm is set to compete in the Virginia Challenge for the second consecutive season. The Johnnies will return to the Mark Young Invitational for the third straight season, looking to defend its first-place effort from a year ago.
The Red Storm collected three wins and 15 top-three finishes across 16 events in New Haven, Conn., last year. Samantha Morillo-Martnez and Nora Haugen tallied wins in the shot put, discus and 400-meter run.
Last weekend in Storrs, Conn., Haugen grabbed her first win of the outdoor season in the 800-meter run by posting a 2:09.36 effort. Haugen's time was 10 seconds better than the second-place finisher in the event.
Gabriella Caronia and Claire Cushing each took part in their first 3,000-meter steeplechase of the season at UConn. Caronia claimed third place with a mark of 11:21.97 while Cushing nabbed fifth off a 11:29.43 pace.
Delicia Bent led the Red Storm sprinters last weekend by engineering a 24.57-second mark for third place. Leilani Robinson put together a personal-best finishing time of 58.18 seconds in the 400-meter run.

In the pole vault last weekend, both Colette Metcalf and Berit Friedenbach put forth identical season-best results of 3.48 meters.
Following this weekend's final split action of the season, the Red Storm will gear up for the Penn Relays in Philadelphia next Friday and Saturday.
