St. John’s to Close 2024 Regular Season against Georgetown

Red Storm holds 68-22 all-time record against the Hoyas
QUEENS, N.Y. (May 15, 2024) – The St. John's baseball team (33-14-1, 13-5) will wrap up the 2024 regular season this weekend when BIG EAST foe Georgetown (32-18, 11-6) comes to Queens for a three-game series, beginning on Thursday.
The Red Storm and the Hoyas will square off in a 6 p.m. contest in game one, followed by a 3 p.m. start on Friday and a 1 p.m. slate on Saturday. All three games will be broadcast live on ESPN+ and live stats will be made available on RedStormSports.com.
The Johnnies continue to swing away at the top of Division I with 19 triples (13th) and 111 doubles (35th). St. John's pitching has emerged as a steady contender among top teams in the nation, boasting a 4.31 ERA (19th in NCAA). Mario Pesca has been lethal as the Red Storm's game-three starter with a 2.62 ERA, good for 19th in the country. In conference play alone, the Bronx, N.Y., native boasts a 2-1 mark with a 2.16 ERA.
Fellow starter Evan Chaffee is also making a strong case for BIG EAST Pitcher of the Year with his conference numbers, going 2-0 in six starts with a 3.15 ERA and 24 strikeouts. Pesca and Chaffee have secured BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week honors over the last two weeks, combining to toss 36.0 innings of work with 27 strikeouts, a 1.50 ERA and a sub-.170 batting average against.
Left fielder Garrett Scavelli is also among the conference leaders during league play, sitting in a tie for first with 18 runs scored and two triples. The Franklin Square, N.Y., product also ranked third with 26 hits, fourth with a .634 slugging percentage and fifth with a .366 batting average.
