Fencing to Host St. John’s Invitational

The Red Storm is set to host its annual home competition
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's men's and women's fencing teams are set to host the St. John's Invitational inside Taffner Fieldhouse on Sunday.
The first round of the event will begin at 10 a.m. with the fifth and final round starting at 3:45 p.m. Results from the competition will be posted to RedStormSports.com following its completion.
At last month's Brandeis Invitational, the men's team competed to a 4-2 record as freshman Darii Lukashenko led the team with a 17-1 mark in the men's saber. The women's team captured two victories with Antonina Lachman leading the way with a 17-1 record in the women's foil.
The St. John's Invitational will feature some of the top fencing programs in the country, including Columbia, Notre Dame, Ohio State and defending National Champion Harvard.
In last year's home invitational, the women's team finished tied in second place, generating wins over Notre Dame, Ohio State and Penn State. The men competed to a fifth-place finish, winning against Penn State.
Following Sunday, the St. John's men's and women's fencing teams will be back in action on Feb. 2 when they participate in Wagner's Brian Palestis Memorial Invitational.
