St. John’s to Compete in BIG EAST Indoor Track & Field Championships in Chicago

The two-day meet will be streamed on the BIG EAST Digital Network on FloSports
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's track & field team will travel to Chicago this weekend for the BIG EAST Indoor Track & Field Championships Presented by JEEP. The conference championship will kick off at 11 a.m. on Friday and conclude on Saturday afternoon at the Dr. Conrad Worrill Track & Field Center.
The two-day meet will be streamed on the BIG EAST Digital Network on FloSports starting at noon on both Friday and Saturday.
Last year, the Red Storm came in sixth place at the conference's indoor track & field championships. As a team, the Johnnies racked up 78 total points. UConn claimed the championship with 168 points scored.
Multi-event standout Cassandra Lemus-Sodji is poised for a big weekend in Chicago. The junior currently sits fourth in the conference in the long jump (5.72 meters) and fifth in the 60-meter dash (7.57 seconds).
Chinenye Onuorah will look to defend her conference title in the 400-meter, as she leads the BIG EAST with a mark of 53.63 seconds in the event. The Thailand native is also second in the league in the 200-meter dash, posting a time of 24.20 seconds from the Youree Spence-Garcia Invitational. Ryana Dennis, Amarachukwu Obi and Nyla Henderson can also do damage in the 200 meters, as they all have times good enough in seventh, eighth and ninth place in the conference, respectively.
Nora Haugen will anchor the Johnnies in the 800-meter dash. The junior's school record time of 2:05.87 from the Eagle Elite Invitational ranks third in the league heading into the conference championships. The Norway product also sits second in the 400-meter behind her teammate Onuorah, recording a mark of 54.49 seconds.
Danella Dawkins will look to build on a strong indoor season in the hurdle events this weekend. The graduate student checks in third in the BIG EAST in the 60-meter hurdles with a season-best finishing time of 8.69 seconds.
St. John's 4x400-meter relay squad of Obi, Onuorah, Henderson and Haugen has been strong all season and will look to repeat as BIG EAST Indoor Champions, coming into the meet with the top seed of 3:42.62.
Ruth Smith and Ashley Sadler will represent the Red Storm in the high jump. The pair of athletes are tied for seventh place in the league with leaps of 1.60 meters.
Freshman Virginia Lloret will look to make noise at her first BIG EAST Championship this weekend. The Spain native leads St. John's in the pole vault and ranks seventh in the league with a leap of 3.55 meters.
Jamora Alves has put together a career indoor season in Red and White in 2025. The junior leads the Red Storm throwers in both the shot put and the weight throw with tosses 15.23 meters and 16.68 meters, respectively. The Grenada native ranks second in the shot put and fifth in the weight throw in the conference.
