St. John’s Finishes in Third Place at BIG EAST Indoor Track & Field Championships

The Red Storm earned 93 total points at the indoor conference championship
CHICAGO (March 1, 2025) – The St. John's track & field team finished in third place at the BIG EAST Indoor Track & Field Championships on Friday at the Dr. Conrad Worrill Track & Field Center in Chicago.
As a team, the Red Storm earned 93 total points at the conference championship meet and claimed wins in the shot put and 4x400-meter relay. UConn took home the conference title with 189 points, while Georgetown came in second with 112 points.
The Red Storm's third-place finish marks the program's highest at the BIG EAST Indoor Championships since 2018 when it finished in the same spot.
Jamora Alves posted a win for the Red Storm in the shot put on Saturday afternoon. The Grenada native produced a school record toss of 15.69 meters to notch a gold medal and earn St. John's 10 points. The junior's record throw beat out Neni Davis' heave of 15.67 meters from the 1982 Princeton Relays. Juliet Smith finished in fifth place in the event off a 12.73-meter throw for four points.
St. John's staked a win in the 4x400-meter relay, as Jalen Jackson, Maddie Kelso-Heap, Chinenye Onuorah and Nora Haugen breezed through the race in 3:40.80 for 10 points.
Cassandra Lemus-Sodji earned her second medal of the weekend, this time tallying a silver medal in the 60-meter dash. The junior ran a personal-best 7.50 seconds in the event while Karese Lloyd placed seventh on a career-record 7.72-second effort. The two Johnnies combined for 10 points between their two finishes.
Haugen nabbed a silver medal in the 800-meter run, breaking her own school record of 2:05.87 for the second time this season with a 2:04.64 finish.
Danella Dawkins grabbed a bronze medal in the 60-meter hurdles, sprinting across the track in a personal-record 6.69 seconds.
In the 400-meter finals, Onuorah finished in third place, taking home a bronze medal on a 53.97-second finish to add six points to the Johnnies' total.
Onuorah followed up her 400-meter run performance by placing fifth in the 200-meter dash. The junior paced the race in 24.38 seconds, while Amarachukwu Obi registered an eighth-place result on a 25.59-second finishing time.
Fia Viklund logged a sixth-place effort in the triple jump, leaping 11.53 meters, good enough for three points.
Ruth Smith and Ashley Sadler both tied for eighth in the high jump with leaps of 1.55 meters to tack on a point to the Red Storm's total.
Leyre Campo de Quevedo set a new personal record time of 9:53.11 in the 3,000-meter run to come in 15th place.
