St. John’s Travels to West Point to Open BIG EAST Play Against Marquette and Georgetown

The Johnnies are off to their best start since 2021
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's men's tennis team, off to its best start in four years, will travel to West Point, N.Y., this weekend for a pair of neutral site BIG EAST contests against Marquette and Georgetown. The Johnnies will face the Golden Eagles on Friday at 8 a.m. before squaring off with the Hoyas on Saturday at 8 a.m. Both matches will be at the Lichtenberg Tennis Center on Army's campus.

The Red Storm won four matches last week, defeating Morgan State, FDU, Rider and Quinnipiac by a combined score of 19-2, to improve to 6-0 for the first time since 2021. BIG EAST Singles Player of the Week Leonardo Mileikowsky picked up four solo victories last week, bringing his undefeated record in singles play to 5-0. The second-year Johnnie is also 4-0 in doubles play this season, with Ignacio Vinas as his partner for all four wins.
Ryota Kaneda and Adam Groves have also had a blistering start in doubles action in 2025, starting the year 5-0. Kaneda has continued his success in singles play, earning a 4-0 record through six matches. His nine combined wins are tied for the team lead with Mileikowsky. Vinas, Max Amling and Marco Cinotti are also perfect this season in solo action.
The Golden Eagles come to the East Coast 0-5 this season, most recently falling to DePaul last Saturday, 5-2, in the team's BIG EAST opener. Blake Roegner leads Marquette with a 4-1 singles record, all on the o. 1 court. TJ Ryerson, Kristian Blagoev and Cyrus Ahman each have two wins a piece.
When Johnnies and Golden Eagles last squared off on April 19, 2024 in Queens, St. John's picked up a dominating 4-0 triumph over its BIG EAST rivals. Groves and Kaeda earned a doubles victory, while Carl Gustavsson and Kaneda picked up singles wins to propel the Red Storm to the sweep. The Johnnies have won eight-straight meetings against Marquette and lead the all-time series, 12-2.
Georgetown is 1-3 in 2025, with its lone win coming on Jan. 24 in a 7-0 sweep at Howard. In their last performance, the Hoyas fell on the road to Virginia Tech last Saturday, 5-2. Before facing the Red Storm on Saturday, Georgetown will square off with Army on Friday at 2 p.m.
St. John's won its fourth consecutive match over the Hoyas, 5-2, last season on April 10 in Washington, D.C. The Red Storm lead the all-time series 12-3.
Following this weekend's matches, the Red Storm will return home to square off with LIU on Feb. 12.
