St. John’s Sends Nine Fencers to the 2025 NCAA Championships

The Red Storm is set to compete for its second national title in program history
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's fencing team is heading to University Park, Pa., in search of its second national championship at the 2025 NCAA Championships hosted by Penn State. The competition will last four days, spanning from Thursday to Sunday.
Penn State will stream early-round action and live scoring can all be found at the Tournament Central page. Friday and Sunday's championship rounds will be streamed on ESPN+ found here.
Nine student-athletes, six men and three women will head to the NCAA Championships on behalf of St. John's. The Red Storm matches its total from last year following another impressive day at the NCAA Northeast Regional.
The men are set to kick off the event on Thursday and Friday. Vlad Covaliu and Daniil Mazur headline the group as they finished in the top spot at the NCAA Northeast Regional in the men's saber and epee, respectively.
Mazur is set to make her second appearance after finishing 20th in last year's championships to conclude his freshman season. The other five male fencers are ready to make their debuts on the national stage, including Covaliu, Darii Lukashenko, Samuel Imrek, Igor Wozniak and Jan Nowak.
The women will wrap up the championships by competing on Saturday and Sunday. Senior Julia Cieslar earned her fourth consecutive bid to the NCAA Championships, finishing fifth in the women's saber at the regional. Cieslar looks to build upon her second-place finish in last year's championships.
Sophomore Catinca Dumitru will make her second consecutive appearance at the championships after finishing last year in 11thplace in the women's saber. Antonina Lachman earned her first bid to the NCAA Championships after finishing seventh in the women's foil at the northeast regional.
