St. John’s to Open Five-Game Homestand Against Rutgers

The Red Storm holds a 46-35 all-time advantage over the Scarlet Knights
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's baseball team will open a five-game homestand when it hosts Rutgers on Tuesday in a midweek contest at Jack Kaiser Stadium in Queens, N.Y.
First pitch for Tuesday's matchup is set for 3 p.m. The game will be streamed on ESPN+ with live stats available on RedStormSports.com.
Last weekend, the Red Storm (19-17, 6-3 BIG EAST) dropped its series against Creighton at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha, Neb. As a team, the Johnnies racked up 14 runs on 26 hits, with three doubles, a triple, a home run and 14 walks.
In Thursday's series opener against Creighton, Jackson Tucker went 3-for-5 at the dish with a home run, three RBIs, three runs scored and a stolen base. Jayder Raifstanger also had a three-hit day, logging a double, a walk and a score, while Jace Jeremiah and Jon LeGrande each picked up a pair of hits at Charles Schwab Field. In game two, Jared Beebe and LeGrande each tallied two base hits. LeGrande posted a pair of scores and stolen bases in the contest. Victor Frederick went for five innings in the series finale on Saturday, giving up only three runs with five strikeouts.
LeGrande produced a solid showing in the squad's three-game set against the Bluejays, posting a .500/.500/.667 slash line with six hits, including a triple, five runs scored, an RBI and a team-best four stolen bases. The junior registered a pair of hits in all three games against Creighton.
Raifstanger also had an impressive weekend at the plate, slashing .500/.615/.600 with five hits, a double, four RBIs, a run scored and two walks. The sophomore's team-leading .372 batting average ranks fifth in the BIG EAST and 115th in the country. He is also fifth in the league and 111th in the nation with 54 hits.
Tucker continued to climb program career leaderboards after enjoying a 5-for-12 weekend in Nebraska with a home run, four scores, four RBIs, two walks and a trio of stolen bases. With his three steals, the Staten Island native passed Thomas Cipolla for sole possession of third place on the Red Storm's all-time career stolen bases list, totaling 88 in his St. John's tenure. The senior also ranks fourth all-time on the Johnnies' career runs list with 177. Tucker sits 20th in the nation with 25 stolen bags and is ranked as the 111th toughest to strikeout batter.
