St. John’s to Take Part in the Penn Relays

The Red Storm will compete in the historic national meet for the second straight season
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's track & field team will make its way to Philadelphia to take part in the historic Penn Relays at Franklin Field. The three-day national meet will kick off on Thursday and conclude on Saturday evening.
The Johnnies will compete in the longest-running track and field competition in the United States for the second straight season this weekend. Last year, the Red Storm's relay group of Brooklyn Chestnut, Amarachukwu Obi, Chinenye Onourah and Nora Haugen shattered the previous sprint medley relay program record of 3:56.32 from the 2016 Penn Relays. The squad recorded a 3:49.46 mark for ninth place in the event.
The Red Storm is coming off a sixth-place effort at the UConn Northeast Challenge. As a team, St. John's racked up 50 total points at the meet, beating out seventh-place Central Connecticut by 11. The Johnnies earned 15 top-10 finishes at their BIG EAST foe's annual home meet.
The Johnnies showed out in the relay events, tallying a third-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay and a fourth-place mark in the 4x100-meter relay. The 4x400-meter group of Ciara Wiltshire, Ryana Dennis, Maddie Kelso-Heap and Karese Lloyd dazzled with a third-place 3:58.39 finish in the race. The Red Storm's 4x100-meter relay squad of Karese Lloyd, Dennis, Ava Spencer and Dawkins notched a fourth-place finish on a mark of 47.01 seconds.
Fia Viklund continued her strong junior season with a personal-best leap of 12.03 meters for a bronze medal in the triple jump.
In the hurdles, Danella Dawkins secured a fourth-place 14.31-second result in her first 100-meter hurdle appearance of the season. Maddie Kelso-Heap rang up a fourth-place mark of 1:02.93 in the 400-meter hurdles.
Cassandra Lemus-Sodji tallied a fourth-place effort on a personal-record 11.99-second finishing time in the 100-meter dash. In the 400-meter dash, Dennis led the pack with a season-best mark of 55.41 seconds for fourth place.
Following this weekend's meet in Philadelphia, the Red Storm will finish out its regular season slate by hosting the Tom Farrell Classic for Senior Day at DaSilva Memorial Field in Queens, N.Y. on Saturday, May 3.
