The Red Storm went 3-2 against the Hoyas in 2024
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's baseball team will hit the road for a three-game series against Georgetown, starting on Friday at 6 p.m. from Capital One Park in Tysons, Va.
First pitch for Saturday's contest is slated for 3 p.m. while Sunday's bout will begin at 1 p.m. The entire series will be streamed on MuscoVision with live stats available on RedStormSports.com.
The Red Storm (21-20, 6-6 BIG EAST) will head to the Nation's Capital to square off with Georgetown for the first time since the Johnnies earned a 4-2 victory to claim their 10th conference tournament title in the 2024 BIG EAST Championship Game at Prasco Park. The squad most recently took down Iona, 6-5, in 11 innings on Tuesday, after dropping its BIG EAST series to UConn last weekend at Jack Kaiser Stadium.
Adam Agresti smacked the walk-off sacrifice fly in the 11th inning against the Gaels, marking his third walk-off of the season. Jared Beebe had a spectacular day, going 3-for-6 at the plate, falling just a triple shy of the cycle with a double and a home run, alongside four RBIs and three runs scored. Jon LeGrande stole four bags alongside a double and a walk on Tuesday. In his first start since March 18, Anthony Brienza tallied a hit, a score and a walk against the Gaels.
Jackson Tucker will seek to move up the Red Storm's career stolen bases and runs leaderboard against Georgetown this weekend. Currently, the Staten Island native ranks third on the Red Storm's all-time career stolen bases list, totaling 89 in his St. John's tenure. The senior needs just two stolen bags to tie Walter Heckel for second on the list. Tucker also ranks fourth on the Johnnies' career runs list with 181, needing two more scores to tie Doug Latrenta for third all-time. The speedy outfielder sits 28th in the nation with 26 stolen bags and is the 83rd toughest to strikeout batter in the country.
Beebe has dominated in the batter's box this season, leading the Johnnies with 26 extra-base hits, consisting of a BIG EAST-best 19 doubles, three triples and three home runs. The senior's doubles mark ranks ninth in NCAA Division I, while his 62 total hits sit 82nd in the nation, as of May 1. On the year, the first baseman is slashing .358/.418/.555.
St. John's and Georgetown will battle for the 86th time in the all-time series on Friday night. The Johnnies hold a 71-24 all-time advantage over the Hoyas and a 34-14 record in Washington D.C. In their last series in the Nation's Capital in 2023, the squads split the set, taking one game apiece. The Johnnies went 3-2 against the Hoyas last year, including two wins in the BIG EAST Tournament.
Georgetown will welcome the Red Storm to the Nation's Capital with a 14-31 overall record and a 2-10 mark in BIG EAST play. The Hoyas have lost eight of their last 10 games, most recently splitting its midweek contests against Maryland (W 11-8) and Mount St. Mary's (L 16-25). Last weekend, Georgetown was swept by Xavier (L 2-6, L 3-15, L 2-9) on the road in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Blake Schaaf leads the Hoyas with a .340/.445/.476 slash line, while Owen Carapellotti paces the team with a whopping 14 home runs and 44 RBIs. JT Raab is the leader in the Hoya's starting rotation, posting a 3.43 ERA and 60 strikeouts across 11 starts and 60.1 innings pitched.
