St. John’s to Split Up Between the Tom Farrell Classic and the Larry Ellis Invitational

The Red Storm will split up for the final time this season
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's track & field team will split up for the final time this season between Princeton's Larry Ellis Invitational and the Red Storm's annual home meet the Tom Farrell Classic on Friday and Saturday afternoons.
Princeton's home meet will kick off on Friday at 2 p.m., in Princeton, N.J., while the Johnnies will host the Tom Farrell Classic at DaSilva Memorial Field in Queens, N.Y., on Saturday at 11 a.m.
St. John's will honor its nine graduating seniors and graduate students on Saturday at its annual home meet. The program will honor Gabriella Caronia, Berit Friedenbach, Colette Metcalf, Amarachukwu Obi, Jordan Brown, Danella Dawkins, Linn Hertz, Rachel Hippolyte and Malia Jones in a senior day ceremony to celebrate their contributions to the university over their Red Storm tenures.
The Johnnies' throwers will head to New Jersey to take part in Princeton's Larry Ellis Invitational for the first time since the 2021-22 season. In their last bout at Princeton, the 4x100 and 4x400-meter relay teams each notched a victory against some of the best athletes in the northeast. Claire Cushing also enjoyed a stellar day on the track, winning the 5,000-meter run and finishing fifth in the 1,500-meter run with times of 17:21.72 and 4:42.88, respectively.
Last week, Jamora Alves put together a historic outing at the Penn Relays, breaking her own Grenada national record in the discus of 52.84 meters from the 2023 Hurricane Collegiate Invitational. The thrower posted a personal-best heave of 54.33 meters for fifth place in the event and the national record. The Grenada product continued to shine in the shot put in Philadelphia. Alves put together a toss of 15.03 meters for eighth place.
At the Tom Farrell Classic last year, the Johnnies compiled 13 wins and 35 top-five finishes across 15 different events. Nora Haugen set a new event record in the 800-meter run with a personal-best 2:05.59 finishing time to take home first place.
The Red Storm's runners enjoyed a successful weekend at the Penn Relays, last week. Naiara Garcia, Leilani Robinson, Maddie Kelso-Heap and Haugen breezed through the college 4x800-meter relay, finishing in third place on a mark of 8:45.04. In the sprint medley relay, Jalen Jackson, Cassandra Lemus-Sodji, Nyla Henderson and Garcia paced the event in 3:58.10 for seventh place.
Following this weekend's split action, the Red Storm will take a week off before gearing up for the BIG EAST Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The conference championship will begin on Thursday, May 15.
