St. John’s Takes Third Place at the BIG EAST Outdoor Track and Field Championships

Jamora Alves was named the Most Outstanding Field Performer of the Meet
STORRS, Conn. – The St. John's track & field team finished in third place at the BIG EAST Outdoor Track and Field Championships presented by JEEP at the Sherman Family Sports Complex in Storrs, Conn.
The team notched third place after earning 143 points and three gold medals. UConn claimed the conference championship with 206.5 points, while DePaul came in second after racking up 168 tallies.
Jamora Alves was named the Most Outstanding Field Performer of the Meet for the second time in her career on Saturday. The junior from Grenada posted a win in the discus and a second-place effort in the shot put.
Alves kicked off Championship Saturday with a gold medal in the discus. The junior produced a heave of 43.50 meters for first place and 10 points. Desiree Pagan notched a seventh-place finish on a toss of 41.73 meters for two points.
The Johnnies 4x400-meter relay squad of Leilani Robinson, Djassi Dean, Chinenye Onuorah and Nora Haugen dominated the event, posting a time of 3:35.50, nearly four seconds better than second place Villanova, earning 10 points.
Danella Dawkins earned a silver medal in the 100-meter hurdles, pacing the event in a season-best 14.04 seconds for eight points. Jerese Allwood came in seventh on a mark of 16.00 seconds, registering two tallies.
In the 400-meter dash, Onuorah picked up a silver medal after registering a personal-record 52.90-second finishing time for eight points. Robinson finished the final round of the event in fifth with a career-record time of 55.03 seconds, while Jalen Jackson took eighth on a pace of 57.51 seconds.
In the triple jump, Linn Hertz picked up her second podium finish of the week, taking third place on a leap of 12.37 meters. Fia Viklund finished the event in fourth with a jump of 12.07 meters. The duo combined to net the Red Storm 11 tallies in the contest.
Hertz continued to show out at the league championships, notching a bronze medal in the high jump on a leap of 1.65 meters for 5.5 points. Ruth Smith staked a seventh-place effort on a personal-best jump of 1.60 meters for two tallies.
The Red Storm picked up a bronze medal in the 4x100-meter relay. The group of Karese Lloyd, Cassandra Lemus-Sodji, Dawkins and Ava Spencer posted a time of 46.11 seconds for third place and six points.
Lemus Sodji went on to grab her third medal of the weekend, this time coming in third in the 100-meter dash. The Seattle, Wash., native rang up a personal record finishing time of 11.76 seconds.
In the 800-meter run final, Haugen garnered a bronze medal, posting a season-best time of 2:04.44 for six points. Naiara Garcia finished her day in fifth, earning St. John's four points on a personal-record 2:08.22 finish.
Jackson took home a bronze medal in the 200-meter dash, pacing the race in 24.36 seconds for six points and a bronze medal. Onuorah placed fifth on a finishing mark of 24.42 seconds and four tallies.
Dean led the pack in the 400-meter hurdles, logging a fourth-place effort for five points on a personal-best 1:00.25. Maddie Kelso-Heap and Ciara Wiltshire finished back-to-back in sixth and seventh, recording times of 1:02.53 and 1:04.87, respectively.
