Fencing to Host St. John’s Super Cup on Saturday

The Red Storm is set to host its annual home competition
QUEENS, N.Y. - The St. John's men's and women's fencing teams return home on Saturday, Jan. 17, to host the St. John's Super Cup inside Carnesecca Arena and Taffner Fieldhouse. Admission to the event is free for all fans.
The all-day competition will feature five rounds beginning at 10 a.m. The Red Storm will face a strong field that includes Columbia, Harvard, Notre Dame, Ohio State and Princeton. Results will be posted to RedStormSports.com following the conclusion of competition.
St. John's enters Saturday's meet after both squads finished 4-2 at the Carla-Mae Richards Invitational on Dec. 7 at Brandeis. The Johnnies totaled 102 individual bout victories on the day, highlighted by a 51-29 overall record in epee.
Junior Daniil Mazur led the men with a 15-2 epee mark while junior Justin Cotterell-Roberts paced the saber squad at 14-4. Sophomore Daniel Lendvai added 12 saber wins, and freshman Sebastian Garcia went 12-6 in foil.
On the women's side, seniors Antonina Lachman and Malwina Kolodziejczyk combined for 27 foil victories while junior Eva Galper recorded 14 epee wins. Junior Catinca Dumitru delivered an 11-2 performance in Saber.
Following Saturday's Super Cup, the Red Storm will return to action on Feb. 1 at the Brian Palestis Memorial hosted by Wagner College in Staten Island, N.Y.
