The Red Storm scored seven runs in the first two innings
The game was called after eight innings due to the travel curfew.
Shaun McMillan led the way offensively for the Red Storm, going 2-for-5 with a home run and tied a career-high with five RBIs. Adam Agresti went 2-for-4 with a homer and two RBIs, while Jayder Raifstanger also had a 2-for-4 day at the dish with two RBIs. Dylan Fitzsimmons went 3-for-4 with a trio of singles. Jon LeGrande had a 1-for-3 day with a pair of stolen bases.
Thomas Harding secured the win for the Johnnies, allowing one run on two hits in 1.1 innings pitched. Connor Burns pitched 3.0 innings of relief, allowing just two hits.
Both teams batted around in the first inning, with eight runs scored in the first frame. St. John's started the scoring with four runs in the top of the first inning. After Lewis
Rodriguez reached on an error to start, LeGrande doubled to left to put runners in scoring position. Raifstanger plated the first run of the game with a single down the right-field line. McMillan stepped to the plate and lifted a three-run shot over the left-field wall, 4-0.
In the bottom half of the inning, the Hatters scored four to knot the contest.
The Red Storm responded immediately in the top half of the second after LeGrande was hit by a pitch and stole second. Raifstanger drew a walk, and the Johnnies engineered a double steal to put both runners in scoring position, and McMillan capitalized with a single to left to bring in both. Fitzsimmons singled and stole second, with McMillan moving to third. Rob Mansour recorded an RBI groundout, as McMillan scored the final run of the inning, 7-4.
Stetson rallied in the bottom of the third frame to cut the lead to one, forcing Victor Frederick out of the game. Harding came on to thwart the Hatters' offense for the next 1.1 innings.
St. John's added four insurance runs in the fifth frame, highlighted by Agresti's 410-foot blast over the left-field wall. After Sean Brittwalked and Rodriguez doubled, LeGrande lifted a sacrifice fly to bring in the final Johnnies run of the afternoon, 11-6.
The Hatters plated just one in the bottom of the inning. Burns shut down Stetson for the rest of the afternoon, taking the game into the travel-rule deadline of 4:40 p.m.
The Red Storm are back in action next weekend, as the squad travels to Tempe, Ariz., for a three-game set with Arizona State from Feb. 20-22.
