The Johnnies and Bobcats meet for third straight year
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's lacrosse team (0-2) will open its road slate on Tuesday against Quinnipiac (1-1). Faceoff from the Quinnipiac Soccer & Lacrosse Stadium is set for 2 p.m.
The game will be streamed on Bobcat Nation All-Access from Hamden, Conn.
The Johnnies mounted a strong comeback but fell just short in a 12-11 heartbreaker to Delaware on Valentine's Day. After trailing by five in the first quarter, the Red Storm outscored the Blue Hens, 9-4, over the final three stanzas and erased the deficit to tie the game heading into the fourth.
St. John's held Delaware scoreless in the second quarter, marking the first time since March 23, 2024, against Le Moyne that the program has blanked an opponent in a frame. Despite late chances, including a potential game-tying opportunity in the final seconds, the Johnnies were unable to convert.
Ryan Ormond paced the Johnnies with a team-high five points, recording three goals and two assists against the Blue Hens. Freshman Chase Huggard also delivered a strong performance, tallying two goals and two assists to continue an impressive start to his collegiate career.
Huggard was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week on Monday, while sophomore Ryan Ormond earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, as announced by the conference. This marks the first conference weekly honor of Huggard's career, while Ormond earns conference recognition for the second time after being named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week on Feb. 10, 2025.
Preseason All-BIG EAST selection, Adrian Nowak continued his consistent production, extending his goal-scoring streak to seven games and his point streak to 17. The redshirt junior has totaled three goals and one assist for four points on the season while leading the team with 16 shots.
Redshirt freshman Noah Plenn recorded another multi-point outing. The Delaware transfer recorded a goal and an assist against his former team, increasing his season total to a team-high eight points on five goals and three assists. Plenn also leads the Johnnies with 11 shots on goal through two contests.
Quinnipiac enters Tuesday's contest having split its first two games of the season, earning a win over UMass Lowell before falling to UMass on Friday. After finishing the 2025 campaign at 3-12 and advancing to the MAAC Tournament Semifinals, where it fell to Sacred Heart, the Bobcats return four of their top five leading scorers from a season ago under Head Coach Mason Poli.
Nate Watson continues to lead the Bobcats' offense after pacing the team with 45 points in 2025 on a team-high 29 goals and 16 assists. The attacker has carried that momentum into the 2026 campaign, posting a team-high nine points on six goals and three assists through two contests. Watson earned MAAC Offensive Player of the Week honors following an eight-point performance (5 G, 3 A) in the season opener against UMass Lowell.
All-MAAC Second Team selection Justin Robbert also returns after a strong 2025 season, recording 26 goals and a team-high 18 assists across 15 games. The attacker scored at least one goal in every contest last season, providing consistent offensive production for Poli's squad.
Since 2007, the two programs have met five times, with St. John's capturing the most recent matchup on Feb. 18, 2025.
In last season's triumph, The Red Storm used a decisive 6-2 run down the stretch to secure a 15-9 victory over Quinnipiac in their home opener at Belson Stadium. St. John's controlled the contest on both ends, outshooting the Bobcats, 47-31, led by Nowak's hat trick and two assists and Brian Kelly's five-point outing.
Following Tuesday's matchup with Quinnipiac, the Red Storm will continue a three-game road stretch as they travel to Long Island to take on Hofstra. Faceoff from James M. Shuart Stadium is scheduled for 2 p.m.
The game will be streamed on Bobcat Nation All-Access from Hamden, Conn.
