Joseph Dolezal Wins Gulf Coast Collegiate

The sophomore takes home first medalist honor of his collegiate career
NEW ORLEANS- The St. John's men's golfer Joseph Dolezal took home medalist honors at the Gulf Coast Collegiate on Tuesday afternoon in New Orleans.
The individual title marks the first of the sophomore's collegiate career. Dolezal shot 9-over, 225, over three rounds at English Turn Golf and Country Club. The Long island native tied with Augusta University's Chapman Barnett and Pieter Rossouw at the top of the leaderboard but captured the tiebreaker after carding the lowest third round score amongst the trio with a 3-under, 69.
Dolezal skyrocketed up the leaderboard on Tuesday to finish atop the 80-golfer field. After sitting in 16th place with a 12-over following two rounds of action, the Old Westbury, N.Y., native delivered the best single-round score amongst the tournament field logging a 3-under, 69. Dolezal was particularly impressive on the back nine, where he posted a 4-under, 32.
As a team, St. John's took home third place in the 15-team field battling through heavy winds to record its fourth top-three finish over its last five events. The Johnnies registered a team score of 52-over, 916, on the Bayou. The Red Storm, as it has much of the season, saved its best for last carding a 6-over, 294, in Tuesday's third round.
Max McColgan finished inside the top-10 for the Red Storm shooting a 12-over, 228, in New Orleans. The rookie has recorded a pair of top-10 finishes in his last three events. Fellow freshmen Eli Weidmann and Matthew DiFiore placed 22nd and 23rd, respectively, at English Turn. Weidmann carded a 15-over, 231, while DiFiore finished one stroke behind at 16-over.
The Red Storm men's golf team will be back in action for the Babygrande Donald Ross Collegiate Classic at the Mid Pines Club in Southern Pines, N.C. on March 9-11.
