St. John’s Cards Strong Final Round to Close Bill Cullum Invitational in California

Freshman Eli Wedimann places tied for fourth in return to home state
SOMIS, Calif.- The St. John's men's golf team carded an 9-over, 297, during Tuesday's final round to move four spots up the team leaderboard and claim eighth place at the Bill Cullum Invitational in California.
The Red Storm shot 56-over, 920, to take eighth in the 12-team field at the Saticoy Club outside of Los Angeles. The Johnnies shot 24-over, 312 and 23-over, 311 in the first two rounds before posting the second-best third round score amongst the field.
Cal State Fullerton grabbed medalist honors after shooting 25-over, 889, over the two-day, three-round competition. Cal Poly's Rafael Bobo-Lloret and David Liechty of Utah Tech tied for the individual crown posting an even par, 216.
Eli Weidmann, a Murphys, Calif., native impressed in his homecoming recording his second top-five finish of his rookie campaign. The freshman shot 3-over, 219 (76-74-69), over 54 holes of competition to tie for fourth place in the 80-golfer field. On Tuesday, Weidmann was on fire shooting a 3-under, 69, tying for the lowest single-round score during the event. He led the field with 14 birdies.
Joseph Dolezal placed second on the team in 39th overall. The junior recorded a 16-over, 232 during the invitational. The Long Island product shined during Tuesday's final round shooting a 1-under, 71, in the California sunshine.
The Red Storm will be back in action when it competes in the Gulf Coast Collegiate in Louisiana on Feb. 23-24.
