Sa’Mya Wyatt Drops 20 to Lead St. John’s to 67-61 Win Over Seton Hall

The Red Storm tally third straight win and move to 11-2 at home this season
QUEENS, N.Y. – Led by a 20-point effort from Sa'Mya Wyatt, the St. John's women's basketball team picked up a crucial victory over Seton Hall, 67-61, at Carnesecca Arena.
St. John's (19-7, 9-6 BIG EAST) dominated the glass over Seton Hall (15–8, 9–5 BIG EAST), 42-23, for the largest rebounding margin in a BIG EAST game since Feb. 11, 2022, in a 79-45 win over Georgetown. The Red Storm shot 50% from the field and 40.9% from 3-point range as a team. The Red Storm record its third straight victory and move to 11-2 at home this season.
Wyatt led the Johnnies with her fourth 20-point outing of the season, adding six rebounds and an assist. Beautiful Waheed finished with 14 points, while Brooke Moore contributed 10, as both reached double figures. Daniela Abies anchored the glass with a team-high 12 rebounds, marking her third double-digit rebounding performance of the year.
Three Seton Hall players scored in double figures, led by Mariana Valenzuela with 17 points. Savannah Catalon added 13 points, while Messiah Hunter chipped in 10 to round out the double-digit scorers for the Pirates.
Seton Hall got out to a 9-1 advantage through the first four minutes of the opening stanza. The Johnnies answered with two quick baskets, but the Pirates pushed the margin to 12-5 at the 5:22 mark. Wyatt caught fire, scoring six points in a two-minute stretch to pull St. John's within one at 12-11. After a Seton Hall jumper at 1:47, Janeya Grant buried a clutch three with 38 seconds left to tie the game at 14 at the end of the opening frame.
Grant sparked the Johnnies early in the second quarter, drilling a three-pointer just 26 seconds in. The next six minutes featured back-and-forth action, with Seton Hall clinging to a 22-21 edge, as Abies accounted for all four of St. John's points during the stretch. Late in the half, Moore and Wyatt pushed the Red Storm in front, 28-25, at halftime.
The Johnnies opened the second half on a 7-0 run, building a 35-25 advantage in the first three minutes. Seton Hall chipped away at the free-throw line to pull within four with four minutes left, but the Red Storm responded with a 10-3 surge to take an 11-point lead, 49-38. The Pirates trimmed the margin to seven in the final 30 seconds, sending the game into the fourth quarter with St. John's ahead, 49-42.

At the 5:11 mark, Jailah Donald knocked down a triple, then Waheed followed with a jumper to extend the lead to 10, 60-50. The Red Storm will travel to DePaul for a Tuesday night conference matchup at 7 p.m. ET in Chicago.
